Mock Court Trial- (The Courts) You must participate in this group project.

Instructions: Students are to read this court case and understand the basic content of the trial.  This case is to be used as a guide as to the events that will be used and to understand the steps covered in the courts institution.  Students are expected to assume some role in this simulation. Students who assume the Police officer role are to develop their probable cause (make it up) and be prepared to testify to all elements that could be used in a trial.  So, students who assume the police officer role must think of those situations that could be brought up by the defense and be prepared to answer any relevant questions presented.

Special Note: Students frequently sign up for the the jury role because of the expectation of a juror is to listen to elements of the court proceeding and not participate in the trial as part of their role.  This is a mistake. The jury role is one of the most important roles in the courts process.  You will need to understand the elements as well, evaluate the prosecution and defense roles; and be prepared to present your findings to the class.

Silence for a student is not a good idea at this critical stage of class.

Students who sign up for a jury role is graded on the same merits as student signing up to be a police officer, lead prosecutor or lead defense attorney.  So please, select your roles or positions you are taking carefully and use this time to boost your participation grade.

The sign up sheet will be passed around in class.
