Law Enforcement

Ethics in law enforcement- Really an issue now- Why?

What are your thoughts about why so many abuse of power issues are being reported and seen on live TV?
What is the cause of this?
Why is it continuing to happen?
Who is responsible for this abuse of power, the person, the police administrators, the courts, the public for the lack of support, the media?

Prepare to provide a statement or "Press Briefing" to your peers, family friends, or a residents in any local neighborhood or community about this case.

Your task for this assignment, is to explain the actions of police officers as if you were a member in this police department.  Remember honesty is the best policy.  Also you should remember, your department policy says you cannot comment on police operations when there is a current investigation.  Support for the organization and the credibility for the criminal justice system is a must.

So present your statement to a community member who might ask at a pancake breakfast.  The statement you prepare should be brief, and it should contain a few elements/ or situations cited in this article.

Law Enforcement is the Community -

Is it possible for a law enforcement officer, or sheriff be able to fight crime alone?  Law enforcement officers at times feel they are alone when dealing with crime and enforcement of laws enacted by the Sheriff or the community.

* You can fight a law enforcement officer, but can you fight a town?
Watch this Tombstone Territory YouTube Video. Follow the sequence of events after the Sheriff decided to enforce the no guns in town law. Think about these series of questions:
* Did the community step up and support the sheriff when needed?
* Not why, and if so when. Where was the community interest when the Sheriff was tested?
* What was the Mayor's position?
* When did the help to support the Sheriff ultimately and where did it come from?
